RECITAL FAQs

Q. When is the recital?

It is on Thursday, April 10, 2025!

Q. Am I only being considered for the routine(s) I audition for?

No, Miss Angela will see your potential and prescribe/cast you where she thinks you’ll best shine, even if it’s not a routine you currently know or auditioned for.

Q. What if I only learned one routine but may like other ones, I just don’t know them?

Miss Angela has worked at Juilliard for 34 years and can see exactly what she needs to see in your dance sample audition. You should feel excited to learn what she thinks would be the most fun for your personality.

Q. What will the recital be like?

The goal for the recital experience is to get to feel the ‘preparing backstage with your dance community,’ giggling and nervous, inviting friends and family to watch you do something that you’re proud of in a low-stakes environment while still feeling the thrill of being behind the curtain…hearing it open..and re-living the childhood experience of performing on a stage in a safe, low-stakes experience.

Q. When will I know which routine I’ve been cast in?

Miss Angela will be taking the time to marinate on this as it is a huge serious decision (lol). The results will be revealed on Feb 23rd in the first official Recital Prep class (see the calendar on the website for all recital date info)… via the classic paper-taped-to-the-wall style where you can find your name with your finger and gasp out of excitement. Just like in the movies.

Q. What if I’m not in the recital, can I still take Balletcore classes?

Since the recital is so close this year, all classic Balletcore classes will shift into “Recital Prep”. So at the moment all regular Balletcore classes will be on pause. However, THIRTEEN and BROADWAY classes are still on the calendar!

Q. What is the financial and time commitment?

The structure of these inner child healing ballet classes is much like childhood classes that lead up to a recital. At the end of the year we show our family, friends, and neighbors what we’ve been working on in class. This is not a grown up professional dance performance.

While there is no fee to audition, there are several Recital Prep classes per month between now and February, and all cast members are expected to participate in most of them! (You can miss up to 2 no prob but if you need to miss more we should chat.) These are $29 per class, just like a usual class.

There’s also a dress rehearsal at the theatre on Wednesday, April 9th 2025, the evening before the recital. There is no class fee for that, but it is mandatory! Mark your calendars now. 🙂

We do pro style costumes – it’s more fun that way! Last year we did this and everyone got to feel the feelings of being up on a stage in front of a large audience in a real costume. Costumes ranged between $50 – $100 each. (Some people were able to find costumes on Poshmark or Depop for less.) Once casts are announced, on the first Recital Prep class we will discuss costumes, as anything that needs to be ordered should be asap! Last year each routine casts had their own costume prep hangouts, if you wanted to just sayin.

Q: What if I have to miss some of the rehearsals on the calendar?

You are allowed to miss 2 rehearsals. If you need to miss more, please reach out to Miss Angela to discuss.

Q: Is the required rehearsals on the calendar the full time block listed for all?

Please block out that time, and as things unfold, Miss Angela will have a better sense of how those hours will be structured. But no, not all will be the entire time block.
